Asakusa

7th Apr 2007 (Saturday)

If you are keen in checking out the traditional Japanese places and dun mind the tourist crowd, go to Asakusa浅草. Here you will see the very much photographed kaminarimon 雷門gate (or thunder gate), and where festivals are still being held.

Not sure the origin of this thunder gate but it sure helps to bring in the $ from the loads of tourists going there. You can find all sorts of souvenirs with the 雷門 on it, from keychains, paper lantern, fridge magnets etc.

If you have enough hands, can buy the very pretty food snacks they sell here. But basically most of what you see here, though not all the variety, you can get at Narita airport minus the tax. Good for buying very Japanese-looking souvenirs
