Cartoon Nostalgia

Watched Pixar "Cars" over the weekend.
There is an animated short film"One Man Band" before the actual movie starts, and it stars another luvable cartoon character. She is the little cute girl who do not know where to donate her precious coin to.

Look at those eyes:

Reminds me of the character "Boo" from Pixar's earlier works "Monster Inc", my favourite Pixar's movie.

I love cartoons and I feel nostaglic whenever I talk about it. Scooby-Doo, Superfriends, Captain Caveman ... While trying to draw some similarity between the cartoon characters of today, here is another comparison:

Anyone remember JabberJaw? His favorite line is "No Respect" :)

New Seven Wonders

My friend sent me this link: http://www.new7wonders.com/ to take part in this global project to elect the new seven wonders of the world. There are 21 candidates to choose from and while pondering over which one to choose, let me trace my footprints to see where/when I've visited these sights.

Acropolis, Athens, Greece.
Visited in 1997, spent 10 days in Athens and two of the Greek islands (Mykonos, Santorini)

Alhambra, Granada, Spain.
Visited in Dec 2005 for my honeymoon.

Angkor Wat, Siem Reap, Cambodia
Visited in March 2003. Went to Phomh Penh as well.

The Pyradmid at Chichen Itza, Mexico

Christ Redeemer, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Sidetracked: Saw a picture posted by someone of the view of this monument taken from Mt Corcovado. Have you heard of the song "Corcovado" sung byAstrud Gilberto written by Antonio Carlos Jobim ? It is one of my favourites and I didn't know the song draws inspiration from the mountain till what I found out today. The song title in English is translated as Quiet Nights Of Quiet Star, it is covered by many artistes from Miles Davis to Frank Sinatra to Sergio Mendes, usually done in a soothing jazzy feel. I was pleasantly surprised when I first hear a electronic funky beat version, covered by Everything But the Girl, it was refreshingly done! I enjoyed this as much as the 'quiet' versions :)

"Quiet nights of quiet stars, quiet chords from my guitar
floating on the silence that surrounds us.

Quiet thoughts and quiet dreams, quiet walks by quiet streams
and a window that looks out on the mountains and the sea, oh how lovely

This is where I want to be here with you so close to me
until the final flicker of life's ember.

I who was lost and lonely believing life was only
a bitter tragic joke, have found with you,
the meaning of existence, oh my love
"

Anonymous Quotes

In the end
what matters most is
how well did you live
how well did you love
how well did you
learn to let go

He who does not appreciate plain water, deserves to be thirsty

Promise only what you can deliver. Then deliver more than you promise

The future lies before you, like paths of pure white snow. Be careful how you tread it, for every step will show

Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away.

You never missed what you never had

Singapore Theatre Festival

Image taken from http://www.wildrice.com.sg/

Isn't this picture creative? It conjures the setting in a circus where a stunt artiste / performer tries to open the jaws of a performing merlion to see what's in store in this year Theatre Festival. Sure beats a picture of a proud merlion with piercing eyes, trying to balance on the circus stool with folded fins, overlooking the audience, right? :) Oh by the way, I'll be watching Second Link, producted by WildRice.

Since I'm on the topic on the merlion, did you know that the merlion take a time out for a shower recently? I hear you saying "So what!" , " What's the big deal", "Who cares about the merlion", well that's your take. I do care and I would like to share the cartoons designed for this special occasion, by Miel, a senior artist at The Straits Times.

Cartoon designed by Meil, taken from the Singapore Tourism Board http://app.stb.com.sg

Isn't it cute? I think it's a novel way by the Tourism Board to come up with this idea to add some life to our endearing Merlion.

Singapore Arts Festival

Images taken from http://www.singaporeartsfest.com

These posters caught my attention when the Arts Festival was held last month.
Kudos to the people that come up with this creative piece of art.

Let's take a closer look and see how the image is juxtaposed.

In the yellow poster, we see a guitar as the face, carrots as the hair, piano bars as the nose, symphony chords as the eyes, eyelashes in the form of a pair of outstretched hands and juicy lips to complete the whole face!

In the blue poster, the sideway face takes the form of a guitar, the nose from an artiste elbow, complete with flaming lips :)
